2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
People often choose crossovers and SUVs because they are so versatile and can suit a wide range of different uses and applications. But how many models out there really are as versatile as some buyers assume? When it comes down to the nitty gritty, it’s hard to think of many models anywhere near as versatile as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The introduction of the Trackhawk into the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee range really does take the Jeep to another level.
No doubt, Jeep designers are pursuing an upwardly mobile approach these days and the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a great example of the new upscale design. That said, the Grand Cherokee is a far more accessible model than some of the prestige nameplates likely to be its competition. From a design perspective, everything about this Jeep looks just right–and we genuinely hope that continues. But pretty isn’t Jeep’s main goal, and the Grand Cherokee’s performance demonstrate that style and substance can co-exist beautifully. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 that develops 295 horsepower, plenty of power for the vast majority of buyers. Of course, if you do want more there’s a 6.4-liter V-8 and even a 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel. If you’re looking for serious engine power and are a bit of an adrenaline junkie, you might want to check out the Trackhawk’s 707 horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 from the Hellcats, which can get you to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
Jeep offers the right number of trim levels–seven total, which include five different engine options. Jeep hasn’t caved in to competition and squeezed a third-row into the Grand Cherokee, which means the interior is as spacious as it is comfortable with trim and materials that look as good as they feel. Although only a five-seater, plenty of family friendly credentials are on display with lots of clever bins and storage throughout the cabin.
Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee 7-Passenger?
No–the Jeep Grand Cherokee sits 5 passengers comfortably in two rows. As of now, Jeep does not make a 7-passenger vehicle.
Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 Wheel Drive?
Yes, the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers 4-wheel drive options–in fact, you can choose between multiple systems. Part time and full time four-wheel drive systems are available depending on your needs.
Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee A Good Car?
Critics tend to really like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, though others suggest that Jeep is not as well-built as it should be. With ratings that hover around 8.5 to 9 stars out of 10 for things like performance, safety, and interior quality, the Jeep Grand Cherokee sounds like a good option for most people who want to combine off-road options with interior quality. The reality is that Jeeps are not like other SUVs–they are built for performance, not for show, so buyers should take that into account.
