The All-New 2019 Ram 1500

With the recently redesigned Ford F-series, the all-new Chevy Silverado this year, and now an all-new Ram, it’s a good year to be a truck fan. If you believe the Super Bowl Ram commercial, Queen-blasting Vikings prefer the all-new 2019 Ram 1500. And it’s easy to see why.
First impression? The new Ram looks amazing. At its debut, it was dressed in red or black exterior paint. With the RAM logo stamped on the front grille and black lettering or ram’s head on the tailgate, this pickup is no wallflower. How does it compare to its competitors? Let’s run some numbers.

Bigger + Aluminum = Lighter

For one thing, it’s bigger. Even as it sheds 225 pounds, the new 2019 Ram 1500 measures 4 inches longer and half an inch wider than it did in 2018. Being bigger but lighter is a trick a lot of trucks are learning these days, and the Ram 1500 achieves it by replacing the tailgate and parts of the transmission with aluminum. Less weight equals better gas mileage, though we don’t know how much better yet. It looks like Silverado and Ram 1500 are gunning for best in class fuel economy.

Bigger Payload and Towing Capacity

It’s no secret that trucks were made for hauling. Well, the Ram just got a whole lot better at it. The maximum payload went up to 2,300 pounds, and towing capacity increased to 12,750 pounds. That’s enough to give the all-new Silverado some healthy competition.

What’s more, the RamBox returns, providing an accessible bed storage area, but now with better lids that fit more seamlessly and an AC power outlet on the driver’s side. That ought to be handy on the construction site or anywhere you might need power.

Ram Hybrid is Here

The Ram continues with the same engine options as its predecessor, both mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission. But 2019 adds an optional 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack, making the Ram a hybrid vehicle. This eTorque system makes for smoother starts and stops and provides boosts of speed when needed. Ram also says a diesel engine is coming sometime in 2019.
